Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description: A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Per bend wavy Gules and Argent, on the first a sea horse naiant of the second; a bordure per bend counterchanged. Attached below the shield a Silver scroll inscribed "GONG MU RO" in Black letters.

Symbolism: The use of the shield of the coat of arms of the 36th Engineer Regiment, differenced by a border, indicates the descent of the 14th Engineer Combat Battalion from that organization. Scarlet and white are the colors of the Corps of Engineers. The wavy division represents the sea. The sea horse, commemorating the amphibious operations, symbolizes the organization's activities and participation in marine transportation operations. The motto translates to "Duty."

Background: The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 14th Engineer Combat Battalion on 29 January 1954. It was redesignated for the 14th Engineer Battalion on 25 February 1955.
